God, I love this season! It truly evokes feelings of magic and mystery. My calendar is already starting to fill up for October. I already have two parties to go to. Of course there will be the visits to a few Haunted Attractions as well as many horror movies to rent. I'll, of course, review them here.
But first, lets go back a few weeks ago when my good friend Roberto "Ranch on the Side" DelAmorte had his annual birthday bash, Robhain!
This year there wasn't an overall theme, but the contests were every bit as enjoyable as in years past. Partygoers were separated into two teams. We were given a bunch of wood, tools and other crafty things to use in our three objectives.
- Objective 1: Create a rocket/plane that would take off and sore into the sky.
- Objective 2: Create a giant slingshot to hurl apples for distance.
- Objective 3: Create an effigy to hurl water balloons at.
Though our projectile rocket had a potentially life threatening climax, the other team (Roberto's) shot straight up into the sky. Our apple slinger/thingy did quite well. And we moistened the crap out of our effigy (who resembled Roberto's teammate, Peej, a little too well).
The rest of the contest was an all out trivia-fest with one category that involved spinning the "Wheel of Shame". After the weaker of the guests left the party, myself and Roberto enjoyed a nice bon fire that pretty much ended the cardboard effigies existence. I smoked a nice big cigar as Iris VonBeaverhousen (Roberto's one true love and the person who planned this whole, incredible shin-dig!) joined us outside to cuddle up to the fire and snuggle Roberto. Not soon after she started her snuggling did she start to freak out on how big the fire was. Thus, romantic scene ended abruptly as Roberto spent the rest of the outdoor relaxation dousing. the metal fire pit with water.
Another successful Robhain was had by all!!!
On to other geek-filled endeavorers....
I recently rented a game that I had a bit of an interest in after I heard it referred to as "a potential Diablo killer". Now, I absolutely love the addictive game play of Diablo! When I heard that a '360 game was trying to one up the Diablo series I just had to check this baby out. The game is called Too Human. (see gameplay HERE) I rented it for a few days hoping to find the next '360 "Must Buy!"
I have to say that this puppy had tons upon tons of addictive potential. It had a cool story-line, a cool world and motif (Halo meets Norse mythology), it had an cool RPG feel and wonderful weapons to trade in and out. But sadly the pure crap-tastic control scheme destroyed any hope for me wanting to continue to play or even buy the game. There's no way to truly lock on to the hordes of baddies they throw on you at once. Plus, the camera views are absolutely unforgivable. One of the control sticks controls your character's movement while the other controls your character's sword movement. There is no control of moving the camera around to see what's behind or at the side of you. You're at the mercy of the game's cameras. This leaves you horribly exposed for unfair enemy hits. God forbid you're up against a sub boss, where you'll end up dying several time just to finally conquer them.
This could have been one of the best games I played this year, but the half-assed controls make it one of the worst and that's too bad.
But, one thing I'm loving is Monday night television as Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles airs before Heros. A very cool night to watch TV!!!
This past weekend I went over to Mad Mario's for his game of Call of Cthulhu RPG. It was quite the nastiness as my character (a hard-nosed detective) was nearly stabbed to death and two other character's were horribly killed. A good challenging game, indeed!
Well, that's all for this evening. I'm going home to have some dinner, a nice Pumpkin Ale and perhaps, later, a cigar.
Until next time, remember, the dead are coming for you, Barbara!
